Values Series

WEEK 1: GOSPEL (DOWN)

We are taking the 1st four Sundays of September to discuss our values.

Pastor Glenn preached a message on the 1st and primary value of CLB: The Gospel

As a church, we use a directional arrow pointing down to communicate the gospel because it represents how Jesus came down from heaven to rescue us from the power of satan, sin, and death.

(10 Minutes) Take time to 1st talk about what stood out to you about the message

Below were the passages referenced. Feel free to use this for reference.
Romans 1:16 | Romans 3:23 | Romans 6:23
Hebrews 4:15 | Hebrews 2:15
Luke 15:8–10 | 2 Corinthians 5:19

(45 Minutes) Take time to discuss the sermon guide below. Each Heading is a focal point of the message from Sunday.

1. Understanding the Gospel

  • What stands out to you from Romans 1:16?

  • What does it mean that the gospel is “the power of God for salvation”? How is that different from just being a good message or moral system?

2. Why Do We Need It?

  • According to Romans 3:23 and 6:23, what is the human condition without the gospel?

  • How do you see the effects of sin and brokenness in your own life or the world around you?

“We can cry ‘Hallelujah’ with authenticity only after we have first cried ‘Woe is me.’” – John Stott

  • Do you agree with this quote? Why or why not?

  • How has recognizing your own brokenness helped you better understand the gospel?

3. Jesus Saves

  • What does Jesus save us from? (Discuss: Satan, sin, death, fear, etc.)

  • What does Jesus save us into? What kind of relationship and future does the gospel bring us into?

4. Lost & Found

  • Re-read Luke 15:8–10. What do you learn about God’s heart for the lost in this story?

  • Why do you think Heaven celebrates when one sinner repents?

  • Have you ever had a “lost and found” moment with God? Share it if you’re comfortable.

5. Living It Out

  • Where are you tempted to forget or minimize the gospel in your everyday life?

  • How can you live more aware of God’s power for you through the gospel this week?

  • Who in your life is still “lost” and far from God? How can we pray for them together?
